A Tribute: 10 Celebrities Who Died From Drugs
Philip Seymour Hoffman
New York resident Philip Seymour Hoffman was a highly respected actor of the stage and the screen. After 23 years of sobriety, the actor admitted to a year long relapse of heroin and prescription drugs, leading him into a rehab not long before his drug overdose. It has been suspected that Hoffman’s drug overdose was due to the lethal doses of heroin that are still going around, which are mixed with fentanyl.
Elvis
Elvis, known as The King of Rock and Roll , was found in a bathroom at Graceland, where he was then rushed to the near hospital and pronounced dead on April 16th, 1977. Autopsy results revealed that Elvis died from cardiac arrhythmia (where the heart is beating irregularly, and just stops), due to a mass amount of prescription drugs.
Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse was a Grammy Award-winning musician who can be recognized for her hit song, “Rehab,” and her headlining reports of her crack-cocaine and heroin use. Strangely enough, though she had her struggles with drug addiction, she died from alcohol poisoning in her London home, with a blood alcohol percentage of over 0.4.
Corey Monteith
An interview done with Corey Monteith before his death revealed his struggles with drug addiction since he was very young, which sent him to rehab at the age of 19. After a period of sobriety, which lasted quite a few years, a relapse sent Corey Monteith back to rehab in April 2013; not long before he was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room due to a overdose involving heroin and alcohol.
Kurt Cobain
In April 1994, Kurt Cobain was found dead from a shotgun wound to the head, with puncture wounds in his arm from a needle and a suicide note next to him. The lead singer from Nirvana had checked out of rehab just a few days prior to his death discovery, having had struggles with addiction.
Brittany Murphy
In 2009, Brittany Murphy died from an alleged accidental drug poisoning, pneumonia, and anemia. Oddly, her husband died just 5 months later from the same causes. Murphy’s dad sued the LA Coroner’s office and the LA Police Department stating that they wrongly determined the correct cause of death for his daughter, but the medical examiners stand by their original reports.
Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston, a legend for female vocalists, was found dead, due to an accidental drowning from an alleged heart attack resulting from her long lasting cocaine abuse. There were times where Houston mixed her abuse of cocaine, alcohol, and marijuana, which contributed to the heart disease which factored to her accidental drowning.
Heath Ledger
Heath Ledger, famous for his roles in “Brokeback Mountain” and “The Dark Knight” passed away in his New York apartment from an accidental drug overdose. Ledger had just concluded his role as the Joker in “The Dark Knight” when he took a mixture of prescription drugs, included Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diazepam, Temazepam, Alprazolam, and Doxylamine.
