Drug Overdose Antidote: New Bill In Ohio

The lawmakers in Ohio are now considering to propose a bill that will provide a drug overdose antidote to the family or friends of drug addicts. The bill will allow them to have this drug overdose antidote without the risk of prosecution. This bill is aimed towards reducing the state of Ohio’s abnormally record-high number of fatal overdoses, mainly from painkillers and heroin (which are now the leading reason for accidental fatalities in Ohio). Drug abuse is a major epidemic all throughout Ohio, and the unfortunate turn out is normally drug overdose.

Drug Overdose In Ohio

Drug Overdose, or the excessive or overuse of a drug that normally results in death, is becoming much more common in Ohio and the lawmakers are finally taking steps towards preventing these unnecessary deaths from happening. The friends and/or family who would be administering the antidote will not be prosecuted as long as they dial 911 directly before or after giving it to the overdosing addict. This bill will also make it much easier for local authorities and paramedics to carry and administer Naloxone (a synthetic drug that blocks Opioid receptors in the nervous system).

Drug Addiction Treatment

According to drug facts in 2013, Ohio has the 12th highest drug overdose fatality rate in the United States. Although this is quite a touchy and unfortunate matter, overdosing can be easily prevented. The stigma against addiction is actually preventing people who are struggling from getting the help that they need. Once people realize that drug addiction is in fact a mental illness that needs to be treated, then the chance of people who are constantly fighting against their addiction may seek the proper help. If your or someone you know is struggling with their addiction to drugs and/or alcohol, call (866) 323-6590 now and end the fight.
