The Ohio State University has a Collegiate Recovery Community in which students in recovery can join together as their own sober community. This is open to all students in recovery and is quite helpful when it comes to the “college lifestyle.” This past week, the Ohio State Collegiate Recovery Community held their open house for their Recovery House at Penn Place. Ohio State has now opened up a sober dorm that will begin housing students in recovery this fall.
The Ohio State Collegiate Recovery Community
The Ohio State Collegiate Recovery Community is a group of supportive students in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions. This program offers support to students who are in pursuit of personal, professional, and academic goals, while still maintaining long-term recovery. They hold many social events, and even sober tailgating during football season. The Collegiate Recovery Community holds a weekly support group meetings, offers Student in Recovery Scholarships, campus and community information, and now a Recovery House at Penn Place that will be opening this fall (2014).
The Ohio State Recovery House
The Recovery House at Penn Place provides a safe and supportive college living experience where students who are in recovery can live and continue their journey. It is located at Penn Place, which is on south campus by the Younkin Success Center and Marketplace. To live in this sober dorm, you must have a minimum of 6 months of continuous abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Living in this recovery house, you will be within walking distance to recovery/support meetings, and be surrounded with other students who have the same goal as you: to remain abstinent from drugs and alcohol. It has 28 beds within the dorm, open all year-round, is available to Ohio State undergraduate, graduate and professional students. How You Can Help
The Ohio State Collegiate Recovery Community needs your help!! Your leadership, promotion, volunteerism, and support of fundraising initiatives can help them maintain the growth and future of this amazing Recovery Community. There is a CRC (Collegiate Recovery Community) Advancement Board in which you can give and potentially qualify to be on the board and volunteer. There is an Ohio State Student Recovery Fund, which provides support and programming to students in recovery from alcohol and drugs, those who were affected by addiction itself, and other services that are related to drugs, alcohol, prescription drugs, and addiction as a whole. Then they have an Ohio State Student Recovery Scholarship fund, which provides scholarship support for students in recovery. There is also a CRC Wish List, which includes items that are needed for the Recovery House. Some items that are listed are as simple as napkins, plates, silverware, cups; then they would like some fitness supplies, such as yoga mats and boxing gloves; them donations towards family dinners, the Recovery Tailgates; activities such as nights at the movies, graduation dinners, cakes for monthly anniversary parties, and recovery literature. Help the Collegiate Recovery Community grow and spread the word about this amazing program.
