A plumber from Omagh, Ireland spent the last 15 years making a tunnel from his bedroom to a local pub. The tunnel was over 800 feet long.

Patsy Kerr is facing some charges in Omagh County Court. After a sewage pipe collapsed at a neighbors house they found it to be Patsy’s fault. Kerr went on to tell the court about the secret tunnel he had created and why he did it.

“The wife has a bad snore on her and after watching the Shawshank Redemption on RTE one night in 1994, I decided to do something about it so I waited til she was in a deep sleep and then set about digging a hole under the bed in the direction of the pub. I used all manner of tools from spoons to a heavy duty tunnel boring machine I managed to sneak down there when she was at the shops. It wasn’t until 2009 that I hit the jackpot and came up through the women’s toilet mop and bucket room.”

Patsy would sneak out, usually around 11 pm and be home by around 1 am. He did this using the tunnel he created and without ever awakening his wife.

“To be honest I was sort of glad I was caught. She was always smelling drink off me in the morning and I was explaining it away as a natural odor. But recently I was finding myself singing rebel songs and stuff coming back up the tunnel and it was only a matter of time before I was caught anyhow. The landlord was also wondering how I was just appearing out of nowhere at the same time every night and disappearing from the women’s toilets.”

The tunnel was finally discovered after a survey was preformed on a sewage problem. Kerr had accidentally hit a pipe during his 15 year mole man mission. This caused raw sewage to leak into his tunnel for over 5 years. The judge questioned Kerr’s wife as to why she never smelt the sewage coming into the house or on her husband, Mrs. Kerr didn’t have a verbal response, she simply shrugged.

I know many of us would’ve loved to have a tunnel leading from our bedrooms to either a local liquor store, to a pharmacy or to our drug dealer’s house. The mind’s want to feed alcoholism and/or addiction can create motivation that you never knew you had. If we put just half the energy into getting sober/clean and staying that way then we will have success.
