Weird News - Man Sells Crushed up Pop-Tarts to an Undercover Officer

Cameron Mitchell - The Man accused of some Weird News

I love pop-tarts as much as the next guy, I may have even compared them to cocaine to a friend or two in terms of how addicting they are, but I have never tried to sell them as drugs before. Warning* weird news ahead.

Weird News - Man sells pop-tarts as drugs

A North Carolina man was placed under arrest after allegedly selling an undercover cop some crushed up Pop-Tarts, claiming it was cocaine. 30 year old Cameron Mitchell was arrested on September 4th 2014 after he agreed to sell $20 worth of crack cocaine to an undercover agent.

Officers tested the substance only to find that is was negative for any traces of cocaine. Mitchell then explained to the officers that he needed money so he took the corner of the Pop-Tart and crushed it up. He then took this crushed up corner, bagged it and tried to pass it off as crack cocaine.

He is being charged with selling a counterfeit controlled substance and creating a counterfeit controlled substance. He face’s court on October 4th for his charges.

Delicious treats are mistaken for narcotics more often than you would think. Some more weird news around the country. In 2013 the tables were turned a bit when two New Yorker’s were arrested after Jolly Ranchers were mistaken for meth. They were not trying to pass the candy off as drugs the arresting officers believed they were meth. That case has since been closed and the two men who were arrested were acquitted of all candy related charges.

Same state, same year, different borough. A 57 year old man was stopped in Staten Island and searched by police. They found what they believed to be crack cocaine in his pocket, no it wasn’t Pop-Tarts, it was broken peppermint candies. For whatever reason the man refused a field test and he was arrested. Once back at the station the officers noticed the mistake they made, the man was released and eventually received over $50,000 for his false arrest.

A few things I learned from this:

  1. Don’t sell drugs.
  2. Many cops don’t know what certain drugs look like.
  3. The corners of Pop-Tarts don’t need to be eaten around and thrown away; they can be worth $20 when sold to the right person.
  4. Know your rights.
  5. Don’t go to New York if you have a sweet tooth and plan on carrying around candy with you.
