There are many celebrities in recovery from addiction that you would have never guessed. Addiction is all around us; it does not care who you are or what you do for a living. This disease will take everything from you, physically and emotionally. Those who beat the disease of addiction and better their life receive a life beyond their wildest dreams. This is exactly what millions of people throughout the world have done, including many celebrities who are now in recovery.
Some Celebrities In Recovery
Robert Downey Jr.: Downey was exposed to drugs at the age of 6-years-old, and it was a downwards spiral from there. Drugs were easily accessible in the environment that he grew up in and eventually became a part of his everyday life. Though his entertainment career was promising from the start, the actor hit a major bottom that included a few arrests. His success today shows that when you hit a bottom and get help for yourself, there’s no where to go but up. The promises of recovery are true and you’re able to anything when you beat your addiction.
Bradley Cooper: Cooper, one of the most attractive celebrities in my book, celebrated 10 years sober back in January. This “hangover” actor battled substance abuse and was able to pick himself up and find major success. He spoke about his lows and how he knew that if he kept his use up, he would lose everything. Congrats Bradley!!
Drew Barrymore: Barrymore, one of the many celebrities in recovery, was introduced to the entertainment industry, and all the parties that came along with it, at an early age. Clearly this life took a toll on the young actress because she became an alcoholic at the age of 11. By the age of 13, she was hooked on cocaine; but luckily was able to enter an exclusive treatment for drugs and came back to become one of the most popular actresses today.
Nicole Richie: Richie was arrested over a decade ago for heroin possession, which in result sent her to drug rehab. She revealed that she doesn’t blame anyone but herself, and touched on the insanity of addiction. She is now on the road to recovery and is now a proud mother.
Jamie Lee Curtis: Jamie Lee came out about her past substance abuse issues recently and revealed that a standard procedure that she had at the age of 35-years-old opened her up to an addiction to prescription painkillers. While she was filming the movie “Freaky Friday” she was battling alcoholism (in which she hid pretty darn well). She has now been clean and sober for the past decade and reports that her recovery is the greatest accomplishment she’s ever had in her life.
