39 people in Union Township (just outside Cincinnati) were indicted this past Tuesday after a long, three-month drug trafficking investigation. The Union Township Police Department, including help from the Clermont County narcotics unit and SRT Team, presented quite a few search warrants at the Piccadilly Square Apartments. After the search warrants were executed at around 3 pm, it only took 2 hours for about 15 of the 39 people to be taken into custody.
39 Indicted After Drug Trafficking Investigation
The indictments that were issued by the authorities were on 131 counts of drug trafficking, drug abuse, and the possession of drugs. Overall, the entire investigation centered in on the usage and sale of heroin at the Piccadilly Square Apartments. According to the arresting officers, the whole area is a “hotbed” for illicit drug activity. Back in June of 2013, 13 vehicles, an amount of drugs (unspecified),electronics, money, and incriminating documents were confiscated from the same apartment complex. “My kids can’t even go play outside at all. There are needles and crack pipes everywhere, it’s disgusting,” said current Piccadilly resident Bridjette Conley, who was telling authors that she hates living at the apartment complex and wants to leave.
Unfortunately, it’s been reported by the investigators that the names of those who were indicted and arrested on Tuesday for the drug trafficking investigation can’t be released at this time, but once the indictments are unsealed, authorities say that a full report will be released. The Union Township Police Lt., Scott Gaviglia, recognized drug trafficking and drug abuse as a countrywide problem, and he is right.
Drug Trafficking In America
Drug trafficking, as stated by the Union Township Police Lt, is a countrywide problem. According to statistics, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) makes over 30,000 arrests a year that are related to drug trafficking. It’s known that a lot of drugs comes from the Mexican Cartel; the drug trafficking business down in Mexico is worth over $50 billion a year. Drug trafficking is not only illegal, but extremely dangerous. This past year, it’s highly likely that you have seen a news headline, or two, about the heroin that is laced with fentanyl, which has been the cause of killing hundreds of people. Drug trafficking holds a major part in these deaths. When someone buys a drug from a drug dealer, such as cocaine (or other dangerous drugs) for instance, it’s highly unlikely that it’s in its “pure form.” As the cocaine goes through the drug trafficking process, it’s common for dealers to cut the drug with other substances to increase their supply, which would in return make the dealer more money.
