Life Tips For Quitting Opiates

life tips for quitting opiates

I could of used life tips on how to beat my addiction to opiates back then, before I did the things that I swore I would never do. When I was addicted to opiates, I didn’t know how to live. All I could think about was how I was going to get that next pill to keep me from being sick; wether it was from withdrawals, or even the thought of not having them drove me insane. I was convinced there was no help for me, and that I was going to die alone, miserable, and a pill addict. I honestly didn’t think I would make it past 21 at the rate I was going, but here I am, 23 years old and a month away from having 2 years sober. Want some life tips on how you can do the same? Keep reading, I’ll tell you everything I did, that they told me to do, and how it worked.

Life Tips For Quitting Opiates

When I was deep in my addiction, I did some terrible things that I didn’t know how to cope with. I was told about how rehab saved this girl’s life, but I figured I was too good for rehab, because in my mind, rehab was for criminals or crazy people. Looking back, I realize that I in fact was a criminal, myself, although I just couldn’t see that at the time. I was living in so much denial, and figured that there was no help for me, or even if I wanted it. I knew I had a problem, but I didn’t want anyone to know what I was struggling with, because I knew it would break their hearts. Unfortunately, I was caught in some nasty lies and was in trouble, and was sent straight to rehab.

In rehab, I learned about 12 step meetings and fellowship, and I saw people come in and share their stories, giving us life tips to a successful life in recovery. Their stories seemed crazy to me because there was no way I was THAT bad. I convinced myself that there was another way, knowing that I didn’t want to go back to the pills, but I wanted to continue drinking. After continuing to beat my head against a wall after 4 more times in rehab, I knew I should give what they told me a shot. Here is what was suggested to me (life tips, if you will):

  • Don’t get high or drink, no matter what (easier said than done, right?)
  • Go to meetings everyday (that seemed like a lot of work.)
  • Get a sponsor (do they give me free stuff?)
  • Work the 12 steps (yeah, but I don’t need to do this one, or that one.)
  • Help others (who would possibly want help from me?)
  • It’s not a bad thing to ask for help (I don’t need help, I can do it on my own.)

The Life Tips Worked

That was it, 6 life tips and a little work that would guarantee me happiness and a better life; and ya know what? It worked. I always figured that I would shove their life tips and suggestions somewhere clever and show them that I was different, and that I didn’t need them; but I did. If I never went to rehab and asked for help, I wouldn’t be where I am today. If I never followed those life tips that they gave me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am filled with so much gratitude and I am able to help others to get to that point as well. I strongly urge you to try this out, and ask for some help. if you or someone you know is struggling, please call (866) 323-6590 and get the life you deserve.
