The mind of a pill addict in active addiction is a deep, dark place where no hope is found nor seen. The pill addict has one thing on their mind: getting that next pill, no matter how they have to do it. Whether the pill addict needs to try and doctor shop, or continue buying these pills off the streets, the pill addict is constantly putting themselves in dangerous situations, all for that next high. Although pill addicts do the things that they feel they need to do, it doesn’t make them bad people. No one aspires to be addicted to pills, or anything for that matter, but the disease of addiction is an insidious one, not caring who it takes under its spell.
The Mind Of A Pill Addict
Addicts think differently; it’s been explained as though our brains are wired differently. “I felt insecure, all the time; I never felt good enough, or pretty enough, or anything for that matter. I would take a pill to make whatever I was feeling go away, to numb myself from everything.” That’s just one of the many ways an addict’s mind works; pill addicts take a pill to make the pain go away, just as an alcoholic takes a drink (or 5) to make the pain go away. The disease of addiction is all the same at the end of the day, with the addict’s lack of coping skills and being able to handle real-life situations correctly.
The pill addict will do anything they can to be able to get their hands on the next pill, such as lying, stealing, and manipulating. “I stole from everyone around me, and didn’t even think about how it would affect them. I always rationalized the stealing and pawning, thinking that I would get it back next week; but I never did. If I had money in my hands, it was going towards a pill. What makes me the most sick is that I stole from my own family, the people who took care of me and loved me when no one else did.” This is the nature of the beast, addiction takes control and takes over your morals and thinking, leaving the pill addict to do whatever it is they can do to get their next pill, so that they won’t be “sick.”
Pill addicts think very differently than “normal people.” Going to a place such as a restaurant, it’s hard for a pill addict to not want to go get a pill first. “I didn’t even have enough energy to go to the grocery store without getting a pill first. Whenever I would go out to eat at a restaurant, I would look at the prices on the menu and think of how many pills I can buy instead of buying that food. This $8 dollar burger is half of a pill I can get off that one girl, so I’m not going to eat.” That’s the mentality of a pill addict.
Hope For A Pill Addict
No one should feel hopeless or alone, that’s no way to live. There’s a better world out there waiting for you, all you have to do is ask for some help and have the willingness to change. The prescription drug abuse epidemic is rapidly spreading throughout our communities, and studies show that majority of pill addicts turn to heroin, due to lower costs and a “better high.” The accidental drug overdose rates are continuing to increase, but we can stop that increase by raising awareness on this major issue. If you’re a pill addict, or someone that you know is, get help today and call (866)323-6590; life is much better without waking up with your first thought being about how you’re going to find a pill and what you may have to do to get it.
