This past Saturday, our marketing director, Chelsea, got the pleasure of attending the Lorain Community Task Force Rally Against Heroin. Lorain is in Northern Ohio, near Cleveland, and heroin seems to be an ongoing problem for their community. Heroin has been breaking into homes and stealing the lives of many, including the daughter of the Co-Founder of the Lorain Community Task Force, Lori. Because of heroin, she will never get to forget the cold, winter night of when she lost her daughter. The Co-Founder of the Lorain Community Task Force shared her story of losing her daughter and then finding her god-given purpose to fighting against heroin, bring tears to everyone’s eyes.
The Lorain Community Task Force
What is The Lorain Community Task Force? Well, two amazing women came together to form something very special: Holly and Lori. These two wonderful women have joined forces so that together, they can raise awareness and spread information about heroin, and other drugs, all to get their city back! The turnout at the event was amazing, with over 40 people in attendance. Chelsea stated, “Imagine if the whole state of Ohio were to join together for one huge rally against heroin!” Holly replied to Chelsea, “It can happen! We can do it!”
There are community task forces all over the state, and country for that matter; all formed from someone who was touched by addiction one way or another. Statistically, ⅔ of families are touched by addiction in the United States; this means that ⅔ of people in America know someone who has been struggling with the disease of addiction or is struggling themselves. Many heroin users were first using prescription painkillers, making painkillers a possible gateway to heroin. Although we can’t stop drugs from being made, or from coming into our communities, we can, however, raise awareness about the dangers of heroin, and other drugs, so that our loved ones will hopefully stay away from the insidious substance. Heroin overdoses are killing more and more people everyday; more than car accidents. What’s even more terrifying is that a lot of these overdose deaths are with teens, leaving their families with a memory and major heartbreak.
Getting Help For Heroin And Other Drugs
The dangers of prescription painkillers and heroin are forgotten when it’s put in front of a teens face, making them more susceptible to trying it out of curiosity. By raising awareness and teaching our youth the dangers of these opioids, we can hopefully deter them from their curiosity all together. The truth is that 50% of teens who are constantly learning the dangers of these hard drugs, don’t do them. That leaves you with the other 50% who may have a “rebel mentality” or is still curious as to why they shouldn’t do them. Any addict will say, “I didn’t think it would happen to me. It just took one time and I was hooked.” Although addiction is an insidious disease and has taken the lives of those in our communities, there’s a way out from this deep, dark hole. By getting help, you give yourself a second chance at life, where anything is possible. If you or someone you know is struggling with drug abuse and addiction, call (866) 323-6590 for help today.
