Why are they acting this way and what does it mean? It’s proven that addicts and alcoholics show signs of an addictive personality long before the addiction comes into play. What are these signs of an addictive personality and what should you do?

Signs Of An Addictive Personality

There are many signs that come into play when speaking about addiction and the personality that comes with it. Learning the signs of an addictive personality can potentially prepare you when you see behaviors that you no longer recognize in your loved one. Some addictive personality signs are:

  • Lack of coping skills- they will eat, drink, drug, shop, or do anything to numb themselves. They don’t like to cope with emotions and situations that make them uncomfortable.

  • Sensation-seeking- looking for something that is going to make them feel good.

  • Driven by compulsion- They absolutely love being compulsive or don’t realize that they’re constantly compulsive.

  • Risk-taking behavior- goes along with being impulsive, they love taking risks and not thinking about the possible negative outcomes.

  • Attention-seeking- they absolutely love getting attention, and seem to be depressed (or their overall mood changes) when they don’t get attention.

  • Codependency- depending on the needs or control of another.

  • Secretive behaviors- being secretive or sneaky.
